Ferguson, Henry Hundred bound, Tickner & Lister to tour UAE

Updated: Nov 14, 2023

A flurry of announcements came ahead of the Blackcaps’ T20i series in the UAE and UK, with late additions to The Hundred and changes in the squads.

NZC announced Blair Tickner and Ben Lister, who has recently been signed by Kent for their final 3 County Championship fixtures, would tour the UAE in place of injured Henry Shipley and Hundred bound Lockie Ferguson.

Shipley had been playing for English county side Sussex for a County Championship spell, where he boasted 13 wickets from 6 innings and some late order runs. Though his time with Sussex was cut short; he sustained a back-injury during the tournament and will undergo further assessment in New Zealand.

Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry will be replacing Pakistan speedsters Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi in The Hundred as the latter prepare for their ODI series vs Afghanistan. It’s expected Henry and Ferguson will fill in for them in the final two group stage games and knockouts - should Welsh Fire qualify for them.

Henry enjoyed a Blast winning stint with Somerset, with figures of 3-19 in the semi final to propel his team into the final - which they won. He also produced a clutch performance of 4-24 to get Somerset over the line in the final.

Withdrawing from the UAE T20i series after his stint with the Los Angeles Knight Riders, Lockie Ferguson knows the 100-ball format well enough having featured in its inaugural season for the Manchester Originals. He saw modest returns, clinching 4 wickets from 5 games.

They wont be the only Kiwis added to the tournament, with Tim Southee joining them after the T20i series in the UAE. If selected, Southee could appear in the final game of the London Spirit’s group stage and beyond.

All selected Blackcaps for the England T20i series currently playing in The Hundred will link up with the rest of the team ahead of the first game in Durham on August 30th.

Players not selected for the England tour from the UAE tour will still travel to the UK in order to play the warm-ups.
