Georgia Atkinson opted to send her troops in to bat first with Ocean Bartlett and Olivia Clark starting the game up for CD. Harriett Cuttance for Te Waipounamu was given the new ball, with Grace Kitchen alongside her providing the returns.

Clark was dismissed for a single run after she was caught out off Kitchen, with Bartlett bowled by the left-arm pacer soon after.

Kerry Tomlinson and Jasmine O`Dell took CD through the powerplay for 35-2, a decent effort given the early wickets.

The change in bowling to O’Dell resulted in her losing her stumps to Brooke Henderson.

O’Dell was bowled by Brooke Henderson, resulting in Tomlinson forming a lowkey partnership with Madison Greenaway, which took their team to 60-3 at the halfway mark. It was then Tomlinson began to accelerate, extracting 12 runs off Libby Burne.

The South Islanders removed Greenaway from the equation LBW bringing on CD skipper Atkinson, unprepared for her upcoming onslaught.

Centrals cashed in, Atkinson powering her way to the end of the innings with a quick 56* off 36. Danielle Hemi trapped Tomlinson LBW shortly after she made 50 (34), but would be the only wicket to fall thereafter.

Sam Mackinder played a small cameo of 12 off 14, allowing for her skipper to carry on with her exciting form. Considering the start they’d had CD finished on 157-5, a seemingly unreachable target for Te Waipounamu.

Emily Evans and Charlotte Morris found runs hard to come by in the first few overs with Macy Lyford and Olivia Clark only conceding 7 runs in the first 4.

Olivia McKnight’s introduction at the last over of the powerplay rained havoc on Te Waipounamu.

She first dismissed Morris (LBW) before bowling new batters Libby Burne and Katriel Thomas. Her final victim would be Hemi, who mistimed one to Atkinson for McKnight’s 4th wicket of the over - an incredible piece of cricket that only further secured CD’s win.

Greenaway was in amongst the action too, sending opener Evans back to the sheds, leaving the South Islanders 19-5 after 7.

There wasn’t much to write home about following their top order collapse early on. Lyford and Odell grabbed 2 wickets, with the latter bowling Kitchen to end the match and the innings on 59 all out. Central Districts Māori won by 98 runs, going unbeaten in the tournament.

While CD looked nervous early on, they were swiftly covered by Tomlinson and Atkinson with their big batting efforts. Their total always looked tricky to chase down, but Te Waipounamou never threatened it with McKnight & Co.’s destructive bowling.
