Blair Tickner and Will Young had disappointing showings for their respective sides in the fourth round of the English County Championship.
Nathan Smith (Worcestershire) was rested for their clash with Somerset, whilst Tom Bruce’s Lancashire weren’t playing this round.
Tickner’s Derbyshire had a draw with Yorkshire, but in mainly a batting game Tickner didn’t have much success with the ball.
In Yorkshire’s first innings, Tickner bowled 22.3 overs and grabbed one wicket. But, Yorkshire’s opener Adam Lyth with 97 and the English pair of Joe Root (119) and Harry Brook (126*) put the runs on for Derbyshire.
Tickner did manage to get the wicket of George Hill for nine, Yorkshire finishing on 450/5 from 97.2 overs.
Derbyshire had a good performance with the bat with Wayne Madsen (104), Aneurin Donald (97), Zak Chappell (78), and Brooke Guest (75) taking them through to 447 all out. Tickner made 11* from 19 balls in a 29-run last-wicket stand with Pat Brown.
With no play on day three due to rain, there was little chance of a result. Yorkshire made their way to 59/1d before the captains shook hands. Tickner bowled three wicketless overs and conceded eight runs.
Will Young’s Nottinghamshire had another game that was full of batting displays, but little success for Young himself.
Having waited nearly 39 overs to come out and bat with the success of English opener Ben Duckett (218) and Ben Slater (65), Young managed to only make five runs in the 23 balls he faced. Nottinghamshire posted 400 in the end with Jack Haynes making 74.
Young made a catch in Warwickshire’s first innings with captain Alex Davies being caught by Young for a duck off Dillon Pennington’s bowling.
He didn’t get to bat in Nottinghamshire’s second innings with only 22 overs played on day four and the match drawn.
Derbyshire will be in action against Sussex at home from the 3rd of May. Nathan Smith will hopefully be back in action for Worcestershire as they face Kent in Canterbury. Meanwhile, it will be the other two Central Districts representatives of Will Young (Nottinghamshire) and Tom Bruce (Lancashire) as they square off in Nottingham.
