Capped Australian international Sophie Molineux has been announced as an overseas signing for the Canterbury Magicians in the Dream 11 Super Smash this season.
Molineux has played 24 T20Is, six ODIs, and one Test match for Australia. She has taken 23 T20I wickets, 12 ODI wickets and four Test wickets. Molineux made her T20I debut in 2018 against India and made her ODI debut in the same year against Pakistan. She played her only test in 2019 against England.
She has played for the Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL since 2015 and for Victoria since 2016. She also represented the Birmingham Phoenix in 2022 in the Hundred. Molineux has captained the Renegades in 25 games and was the youngest-ever player to captain the Renegades.
She is also the leading run sorcerer for the side with 1,506 runs along with having the highest partnership and the most catches as a fielder with 35. To add to this, Molineux also has the most Player of the Match awards with 11 to her name.
Molineux has featured in two Australian T20 World Cup winning sides as she played every game during the 2018 campaign and picked up four wickets across the tournaments including opening the bowling in the final against England. During the 2020 World Cup on home soil she didn’t feature in any of the group stage matches due to an injury to her thigh. She came into the side for the semi-final against South Africa, replacing an injured Ellyse Perry. In the semi, she picked up figures of 1/16 from her two overs in a rain-reduced fixture. She also featured in the final and took figures of 1/21 to assist to Australia in winning the World Cup.
