First Innings:
Auckland opened up with debutant, Anna Browning and the experienced Saachi Shahri. Browning was looking good on debut and playing some nice shots before she was out, stumped by Laura Hughes for six, giving Gabby Sullivan the first wicket of the game. Lauren Down joined Shahri at the crease, and Shahri was playing some beautiful attacking shots of players like Melissa Banks, Lea Tahuhu and Sarah Asmussen. The two batters were starting to build a great partnership to take the Hearts to a competitive total. Down, however was struggling to get the ball away and was eventually dismissed for 13 by Tahuhu, with Asmussen taking the catch. Izzy Gaze didn’t last long being run out by Tahuhu/Sullivan for three, after trying to take a second run. Bella Armstrong was next out to the crease and both batters were trying to attack the Magicians bowling attack. Shahri bought up her well deserved first T20 50. Shahri, however departed after being run out by some nice work by Amy Satterthwaite, combining with Banks to break Shahri’s knock. The Hearts knew that they had to try and get some more runs on the board with Armstrong looking for the boundary. Katie Perkins was more trying to turn the strike over to let the in batter get the runs, meaning she was only able to make her way to seven not out. The Hearts were able to make their way to 144/4 from their 20 overs. Shahri top scored for the Hearts making 68, including 8 fours and Armstrong contributed 33. Tahuhu and Sullivan both got a wicket each as well.
Second Innings:
Kate Anderson and Nat Cox were given the job of opening up for the Magicians. Cox started to attack right from the first over taking Fran Jonas for two fous. The intent was easily shown by the Magicians as after three overs they were 27 for none. Molly Penfold was able to make the first breakthrough with Anderson being caught behind by Gaze. Cox didn’t last much longer either as Amie Hucker was able to pick up her first wicket through a catch by Skye Bowden. The experienced players of Hughes and Satterthwaite were now at the crease with a bit of a job to do. After a slow seventh over, Hughes and Satterthwaite decided to attack Armstrong and they did this effectively taking her for 17. The runs started to flow from then, with a boundary coming from every over. The Magicians were still showing signs of wanting to attack the Hearts with Satterthwaite and Hughes taking 14 from Browning’s only over. Hughes finally departed for 26 through a run out by Fran Jonas. Izzy Sharp, on debut joined captain Satterthwaite at the crease and the two of them built a solid partnership to help edge the Magicians closer to victory. With Sharp scoring at a run a ball it helped as she was able to keep ticking the strike over with Satterthwaite. Once Sharp departed in the 18th over for a well made 17, being bowled by Arlene Kelly it looked like it was going to be to little to late for the Hearts. Tahuhu and Satterthwaite were able to get the job down for the Magicians in the 19th over. Amy Satterthwaite also bought up 50 with the last ball of the game. For her 50 from 46 balls, Satterhwaite was given the Dream 11 Game Changer award. Hughes and Cox also contributed with 26 and 21 respectively. Hucker, Kelly and Penfold all took one wicket each.
Result: Canterbury Magicians win by 6 wickets
