Robinson, Kelly Shine for Firebirds, Amelia Kerr Has a Day Out

The Firebirds have taken a big win over the Kings with quality performance all around. Amelia Kerr shone for the Blaze in their win.

Canterbury Kings vs Wellington Firebirds:

Wellington had a fast start with the bat with Tim Robinson showing his skills in the first few overs of the game.

Nick Greenwood tried to take Zak Foulkes down the ground but was caught by Will O’Rourke for four.

Nick Kelly joined Robinson in the middle and they put on a massive 94-run stand for the second wicket. Robinson showed why he is being regarded as one of the upcoming talents in Wellington this season as she blasted his way to 86 from 46 balls.

Angus McKenzie broke the stand when Robinson was caught out in the deep by Chad Bowes. Mo Abbas was only able to add one run to the score as he fell victim to McKenzie.

Kelly kept the aggression up, but Michael Bracewell fell to O’Rourke for four runs.

Callum McLachlan did his job of turning the strike over to Kelly but was also dismissed by McKenzie who finished with figures of 3/15.

Kelly finished on 72* while Nathan Smith made 2*.

Canterbury lost an early wicket with Bowes being bowled by Logan van Beek for six in the first over.

Tom Latham (44) and Henry Nicholls (41) put on a solid stand to get Canterbury through the powerplay without the loss of another wicket.

Nicholls was dismissed not long after however by Peter Younghusband for 41 and then Cole McConchie lasted a few overs at the crease as he fell victim to Michael Snedden for ten.

Mitch Hay wasn’t able to quite replicate his knock from the game against the Northern Brave as he was trapped LBW by Bracewell for nine and Canterbury fell into deep trouble.

Tom Latham was then run out as he was backing up and the Kings quickly fell to 112/5.

Bevon Jacobs tried to do his best to get Canterbury close to the target but he was dismissed by van Beek for 16.

McKenzie fell with a couple of overs left to go for four with Michael Rippon finishing on 25* and Foulkes on 3*.

Canterbury Magicians vs Wellington Blaze:

Canterbury had early success with the ball as Jessica McFadyen was bowled by Gabby Sullivan for six in the third over.

Rebecca Burns and Amelia Kerr put on a dominant knock of 75 runs in just under 10 overs.

Burns was showing her aggressive nature as she made her way to 45 from 34 with Lea Tahuhu taking the wicket.

With the loss of Burns, Kerr took the job of being aggressive and took a liking to Tahuhu as she took 18 runs off her final over.

Missy Banks did have success in the following over with Georgia Plimmer falling for seven.

Maddie Penna then took the wicket of Jess Kerr in her next over before Amelia Kerr and Leigh Kasperek took 14 runs from the second to last over to take Wellington to 152/4.

Penna bowled the last over and took two wickets, Kasperek out for two and Kate Chandler being stumped first ball.

Wellington finished on 154/6 with Kerr top scoring with 77*.

Kate Anderson and Frankie Mackay took Canterbury through the powerplay with 32 runs coming from it.

Mackay fell not long after as she was dismissed by Amelia Kerr for nine and then Anderson was run out by Gemma Sims for 23.

Nat Cox fell first ball and then Izzy Sharp went two balls later for a duck as well with Amelia Kerr getting both wickets.

Jodie Dean added nine runs but was another player to fall victim to Amelia Kerr.

Lea Tahuhu could only add eleven runs with Xara Jetly getting her first wicket of the day.

Amelia Kerr then had her fifth wicket of the match with it being her maiden 5 wicket haul in T20s and the first ever 5 wicket haul in T20s for the Wellington Blaze.

Sullivan was run out with a couple of overs to go for one. Banks (17*) and Sarah Asmussen (4*) saw Canterbury to 107/9 which gave Wellington a 47-run win.
