Rain, Rain, Go away come again another day - Otago vs Northern Brave

Otago Sparks vs Northern Brave (w)

The toss was won by the Sparks, who elected to bowl in a rain-affected affair in Dunedin.

The Brave started off being 45/0 after the first and they didn't show a sign of stopping. With Chamari Athatpathu and Jess Watkin at the crease, the Brave were on fire until the rain break came in for 20 minutes. This reduced the game down to 17 overs.

The partnership was broken when Chamari Athatpathu went for 46 off 37 balls being dismissed by Smith trying to go hit it over Robertson's head at long on. However, it fell short and the partnership was broken for 68 off 9.3 overs.

A rain delay started immediately after the fall of this wicket coming off the ground for 17 minutes and reducing the game by another 5 overs for each side.

A 26-run partnership was formed for the second wicket between Jess Watkin and Catlin Gurrey. Watkin was 29 not out and Gurrey was 14 not out. The Brave made 94 off their 4 overs and the Sparks total to chase was 110 off 12 overs.

Before the start of the Sparks inning rain came into the University of Otago Oval for 11 minutes and the new total was set out as 86 off 9 overs.

Bella James went inside the first 2 overs scoring 8 off 7 chopping it on off Marama Downes's bowling.

Suzie Bates went the next over after some hesitation from Hayley Jensen. She went for 8 off the run-out from Eve Wolland. The Sparks were 17/2 after 2.3 overs.

Hayley Jensen went for 6 dancing down the wicket getting stumped by Holly Topp off Jess Watkin's bowling. The Sparks were 28/3 after 4.2 overs and were in big trouble.

Felicity Robertson went in the same over for 4 and the Sparks were in big trouble being 29/4 off 4.5 overs and a miracle was needed to win.

Polly Inglis went 2 overs later going for 7 off the bowling of Patel being caught by Agafili. The Sparks were 44/5 after 6.5 overs and were dead in the water.

Olivia Gain went for 2 after being run out by Nensi Patel and the Sparks were 50/6 after 7.5 overs with no hope of winning.

The Sparks finished with 64 runs off their nine overs being 6 down. Blakely scored 20 not out and Linsey Smith scored 7 not out. The Brave won by 22 runs via the DLS method.

Otago Volts vs Northern Brave (M)

The toss was won by the Volts, who elected to bowl in another rain-affected match in Dunedin.

Andrew Hazeldine got Katene Clarke from a skyed shot straight to Jacob Duffy at mid on. He had to go for 4 off 2 and the Brave were 4/1 after .2 overs.

Scott Kuggeleijn opened the batting and went for 0 off the same shot that Katene Clarke played skying it to Dean Foxcroft at mid off. The Brave were 6/2 after 2 overs.

Then the first rain delay came, which lasted for 17 minutes. Henry Cooper had another terrible showing scoring another duck off 2 balls. He got out in the same way as everyone else skying to mid on with Duffy taking the catch off Hazeldine's bowling.

Jeet Raval then went for 6 getting yorked by Hazeldine. The Brave were 18/4 after 4.4 overs and in massive trouble.

Peter Bocock then went for 10 with Hazeldine taking the catch of Lockrose's bowling after a skyed cut shot.

The Brave came off at the rain break 36/5 after 7.2 overs. However, it would stay this way as it wasn't a fairytale finish for Hamish Rutherford and the match was abandoned with the teams splitting the points.
