Pakistan Take Victory in Final T20I to Avoid Whitewash

Pakistan have avoided a whitewash with a massive victory over the Blackcaps in Christchurch.

New Zealand had a solid start with the ball as Tim Southee got the wicket of Haseeb Ullah for a three-ball duck who was on debut.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam showed their true talent as they once again put on 50 runs for the second wicket, however, this did come in 51 balls with Rizwan making 33 from 29 and Azam 12 from 22.

Azam then went a couple of balls later for 13 as he fell victim to Ish Sodhi.

Fakhar Zaman came and attacked the Kiwi bowlers hitting four sixes in a quick-fire 33 from 16 before Southee struck again with Zaman falling.

Muhammad Nawaz could only add one with Sodhi grabbing his second wicket of the day. Rizwan then fell to Matt Henry on the next ball for a run a ball 38.

Iftikhar Ahmed only added five runs before falling to Lockie Ferguson and Shaheen Shah Afridi went to Henry for one with Pakistan at 114/7.

Sahibzada Farhan and Abbas Afridi quickly attacked at the end to get Pakistan up to 130 when Farhan went for 19 to Ferguson.

Abbas Afridi (15*) and Usama Mir (1*) were the not-out batters as Pakistan put 134/8 on the board.

New Zealand were in trouble early on with Rachin Ravindra going for one with Nawaz getting the wicket.

Allen hit some early runs off Shaheen Shah Afridi but was out inside the powerplay to Zaman Khan for 22.

New Zealand had a massive middle-order collapse as Will Young went to Nawaz for 12 and then Mark Chapman was run out for one.

Tim Seifert was unable to find any real start in the middle as he fell to Iftikhar for 30 ball 19.

Mitchell Santner (4) was next out to Mir with Ahmed getting two more wickets in the following over with Henry and Sodhi both going for one each.

Glenn Phillips was watching all his partners at the other end fail so he had to be careful about protecting his wicket. He did decide to start swinging near the end of the innings as the required run rate was climbing.

Phillips was caught by Abbas Afridi off Shaheen’s bowling for 26 and then Ferguson was bowled for a duck with Aotearoa all out for 92.
