Otago Spinner Sophie Oldershaw Announces Retirement

Otago Sparks spinner Sophie Oldershaw has announced that she has retired from cricket.

Oldershaw played 89 games across both formats for the Sparks, representing the side in 44 List A matches and 45 T20 matches between the 2017/18 season and the 2023/24 season.

She made her HBJ Shield debut against Auckland in 2017 taking one wicket from her three overs. On her Super Smash debut, she grabbed one wicket from the five balls she bowled, but that wicket was the big wicket of Sophie Devine.

The 25-year-old has best figures of 5/19 in List A cricket coming against Canterbury in 2020 and best figures of 3/16 in T20 cricket coming against the Central Hinds in 2021. She finished with 35 List A wickets and 36 T20 wickets.

Otago Sparks coach Craig Cumming said that they were very sad to lose a highly valued and respected member from the Sparks on and off the field.

Cumming also highlighted the fact that the Sparks will give her a deserved goodbye to celebrate her career.

Oldershaw said that she has enjoyed every moment of playing for the Sparks and being able to represent Otago. She also thanks her teammates, coach, and support staff.
