Northern Māori blast the 87-run target set by Te Whanganui-a-Tara with Sam Barriball’s 44* (26) and Jessica Benge’s 23* (31) in 12 overs.
Caitlin King opted to bat first, a perhaps regrettable decision given Mia Chatterton’s double wicket maiden in the 3rd over. Jess McFadyen and Estella Wallace were caught out by Jessica Benge.
Dayle Anderson was the next for Northern Māori, trapping King LBW for just 2 runs. Nicole Baird and Sasha MacArthur saw out the powerplay for Te Whanganui-a-Tara on 14-3.
Meddy Hyde and Ella Archer were given 3 overs back to back, conceding just 21 runs from 6 overs. Pressure was building on the batters with something bound to give. It did - MacArthur bowled by Sadie Stewart for 8 off 26.
Baird took the majority of the strike towards the back end of the innings before she was bowled in the penultimate over by Anderson. She led from the front with her 47 runs off 51.
Te Whanganui-a-Tara ended on 86-6, a tricky total to defend with the inform Sam Barriball yet to come.
Emma Parker set the tone in her first over by delivering a maiden, before trapping Zamera Ikiua. Unfortunately for the Wellingtonians, Barriball and Benge blasted through the 87 target with ease.
Barriball smashed it scoring 35 (22) and ended the game in style with a 4, her 8th of the innings. Benge was key in support, contributing 23* to Northern Māori’s convincing 9-wicket win with 50 deliveries remaining.
