Following the 2020/21 season, Smith made the move to Wellington and has played 14 FC, 12 LA, and 23 T20 games for his new province.

Throughout his domestic career, Smith has made 1620 FC runs at a healthy average of 26.55 and has nine 50s and a 100 to his name. He has 799 runs in LA cricket with an average of 28.53 with three 50s. In T20 cricket he has only scored 273 runs with an average of 11.86 and a highest score of 38*.

Players such as Otago opener Hamish Rutherford and New Zealand Test opener Glenn Turner have represented Worcestershire in the past.

Commenting to Worcestershire about joining the side he said that he is “thrilled” and it is an “ideal environment for me to grow as a cricketer.”

Worcestershire coach, Alan Richardson, said “We (Worcestershire) have been monitoring him for some time, and his pace and ability to swing the ball will provide us with a significant boost in our bowling department.”
