Hinds Impress with Spectacular Performance, Securing Place in Grand Final

The Central Hinds have booked a spot in the final against the Wellington Blaze with a 45-run win over the Northern Brave in Hamilton.

Central’s innings didn’t get off to the best of starts with Nensi Patel striking in the first over to have Nat Dodd on her way for a six-ball duck.

A solid 107-run stand then was put on for the second wicket between Hollie Armitage (78) and Thamsyn Newton (34). They did a lot of running between the wickets in the first seven overs of the match as only one boundary came from those seven overs.

Just as they were looking like they would be on track to bring up the Hinds highest-ever second wicket stand in T20 cricket, Marina Lamplough got the breakthrough and had Newton bowled.

Lamplough then struck in her following over to get the huge wicket of Armitage who had made the first T20 50 for the Hinds this season.

Mikaela Greig went soon after for nine as Jess Watkin got her out stumped by keeper Holly Topp.

With runs needed in the latter stage of the innings to push the Hinds to the 150 mark, Hannah Rowe did well with a solid 19*. Marama Downes did get the wicket of Georgia Atkinson in the final over for two.

They finished their innings on 151/5.

Just like the Brave did, the Hinds were able to get a wicket in the opening over of the innings with Rowe trapping Watkin LBW for a duck.

Chamari Athapaththu tried to take on the swing of Claudia Green but perished for 11. Green then had Patel sending one straight to Georgia Atkinson the following ball. With Green on a hat-trick, the pressure was on Lamplough.

Unfortunately for Lamplough, she was trapped LBW with Green getting the first-ever T20 hat-trick for Central Districts and just the 7th Women’s Domestic T20 hat-trick.

Eimear Richardson and Caitlin Gurrey tried their best to get Northern back into the game and they did see off the rest of the powerplay until Priyanaz Chatterji had Richardson trapped LBW for 12 and then Eve Wolland tried to take her on but was caught by Rowe in the deep for a duck.

Carol Agafili and Gurrey tried to gain some momentum in a game that was very well heading for a demolition for the home team.

Agafili went for six as she was bowled by Chatterji. Topp joined Gurrey in the middle but she was run out after sharing a 13-run stand with Gurrey. Rowe ran her out for four.

Gurrey did bring up her 13th T20 50 but went soon after for 52 with Green nabbing a fourth wicket of the day.

Downes and Shriya Naidu got the team past the 100-run mark before Rosemary Mair got the final wicket as Downes was bowled for nine.

Green finished with career-best figures of 4/24 as the Hinds took a 45-run win and progressed to the Dream 11 Super Smash Final on Sunday against the Wellington Blaze at Eden Park!
