Hamish Rutherford Announces Retirement

Otago and former Blackcap, Hamish Rutherford has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. 


Rutherford played 130 first-class matches, 127 List A fixtures, and 192 T20 matches.*


He made his debut for Otago in the 2008/09 season and then his Blackcaps debut in the 2012/13 season. He appeared across all three formats for the national side.



His highest Test score of 171 was made on debut against England at the University of Otago Oval. He scored 755 test runs over 16 matches. Rutherford also featured in four ODIs and eight T20Is.


He made a total of 17 FC 100s and 40 50s. He also got 13 LA 100s, 19 LA 50s, two T20I 100s, and 18 T20 50s.


Rutherford will finish his career against the Northern Brave on Tuesday the 23rd of January in the final T20 game of the season at the University Oval.


Rutherford’s father, Ken, played cricket for New Zealand in test matches and ODIs.
