Experienced Blackcaps side named for Bangladesh T20Is

Kane Williamson will captain the side with many regular players being brought back into the side following a rest period during the ODI leg of the tour.

From the squad that faced England earlier this year Williamson, Jimmy Neesham and Ben Sears are the players that did not feature on this tour. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra played in the England tour but won’t appear in this series. Conway wasn’t considered for selection as he is continuing a period of rest following a heavy workload.

Lockie Ferguson (Achilles) and Matt Henry (hamstring) also featured on the tour to England but are currently injured along with Michael Bracewell (Achilles) and Henry Shipley (back). T20 globetrotter, Trent Boult made himself unavailable for selection.

Ben Sears has also earned selection in the squad and will work alongside Adam Milne in the fast bowling department. Sears has earned all his caps for Aotearoa outside the country so this will be a chance to make his debut on NZ soil.

Blackcaps coach Gary Stead commented on the fact that New Zealand have played in many different conditions with their T20 cricket this year and how players such as Tim Seifert have shown their value.

“We’ve played T20 cricket in a wide variety of conditions this year and it’s been great to see a broad range of players making contributions.

“Tim Seifert, as an example, returned to the side in a specific role at the top of the order and made significant contributions in each series he was part of.”

He also commented on the factors of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA next year.

“With a World Cup in the middle of next year we‘re well into our planning in terms of both the tournament and the type of squad we might need in the conditions.

“While we’re advanced in our planning, as we saw with the One Day World Cup Squad this year with the likes of Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra - there is certainly still time for players to come into that mix.”

Stead will be assisted by batting coach Luke Ronchi, Canterbury Men’s Development Coach Brendon Donkers as the bowling coach and NZC High Performance Network Coach Dean Brownlie will assist as well.
