Updated: Oct 24, 2023

The White Ferns have won the second ODI against Sri Lanka. Centuries from Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine got the White Ferns to a total of 300+, before Lea Tahuhu was able to do some magic with the ball.

White Ferns: Suzie Bates, Bernie Bezuidenhout, Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine, Maddy Green, Georgia Plimmer, Brooke Halliday, Hannah Rowe, Lea Tahuhu, Eden Carson, Fran Jonas Sri Lanka: Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Chamari Athapaththu, Nilakhi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kavisha Dilhari, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Kawya Kavindi, Sugandika Kumari, Udeshika Prabodhani, Inoka Ranaweera

Suzie Bates and Bernie Bezuidenhout once again opened the batting for the White Ferns. Bates and Bezuidenhout got the White Ferns off to a slow start, before Bates departed in the third over for 1 from 10, with Prabodhani picking up her first wicket of the game. Amelia Kerr joined Bezuidenhout in the middle. The two of them nearly managed to get through the rest of the powerplay without losing a wicket, but Bezuidenhout perished on the last ball of the 10th over, after playing some nice shots. She made a quickfire 25 from 27 with Ranasinghe getting her out. Sophie Devine joined Kerr at the crease, with the score sitting at 57/2 after the first ten overs. The pair got off to a solid start, taking at least five runs off most of the overs. They quickly bought up fifty partnership in only 46 balls. With Kerr contributing a run a ball 18 and Devine making 30 from 28, not long after, Kerr bought up her 50 from 52 balls which included four 4s. Devine soon bought up her fifty as well, from 54 balls with six fours in her knock. The partnership between the two Wellingtonians ticked on with the 100 run partnership coming in 99 balls and the 150 run partnership being bought up in 140 balls. Kerr was the first one to get to 100, reaching it off 98 balls and her knock included six fours and 1 six. Devine bought her 100 off 108 balls with 12 fours. The White Ferns were able to keep the scores ticking over, with the 200 partnership between Kerr and Devine being made in 189 balls. The partnership of 229 between Kerr and Devine was finally broken by Ranasinghe with Ker departing for 108 from 106 balls. Maddy Green came to the crease to join her former Wellington teammate. Devine fell an over later for 137 from 121 balls, her knock including 17 fours and two sixes. Green fell for 5 from 10, with Ranasinghe picking up her third of the innings. Halliday only lasted 6 balls before departing, bowled by Kumari. Georgia Plimmer and Hannah Rowe were able to add a few lower order runs, before Tahuhu came in with 2 balls to go and hit one for 6 to bring the White Ferns to a total of 329/7 from 50 overs. Devine top scored with 137 and Kerr made 108. Ranasinghe took 3 wickets whilst Prabodhani chipped in with 2.

Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshitha Samarawickrama opened the batting for Sri Lanka. They were able to get their side off to a good start, making 31 runs in the first 5 overs. Unfortunately for Sri Lanka, a mini collapse occurred from here onwards. Gunaratne was the first to depart for 12, before Chamari Athapaththu departed for a golden duck leaving Tahuhu on a hattrick. Sadly, she wasn’t able to pick it up. Samarawickrama was the next one to depart, being caught by Green off the bowling of Eden Carson for 9 from 21. This left Sri Lanka in all sorts of trouble sitting at 39/3. Nilakshi de Silva was joined by Anushka Sanjeewani, but the partnership only lasted 2 balls before de Silva gave Tahuhu her third wicket of the game. With Sri Lanka sitting at 40/4, they were going to need a partnership to bring them back into the game. Kavisha Dilhari joined Sanjeewani at the crease. The pair worked well together, finding the gaps on the odd occasion and slowly making sure that Sri Lanka could get back on track. Sanjeewani fell just when they were getting settled at the crease, she departed for 17 from 14. Dilhari was joined by Oshadi Ranasinghe. With Dilhari being the settled and more recognised batter, she kept the scoring rate ticking along. Ranasinghe departed for 8 from 14 after the two had put on 32 runs. Kavindi joined Dilhari at the crease and the pair needed to try and rebuild together if they were to get Sri Lanka in with a shot of winning the game. The partnership between them lasted 9 overs before Kavindi was bowled by Tahuhu for 15 from 31. Kumari joined Dilhari at the crease. Dilhari brought up her half century from 63 balls, with eight fours in her knock. Dilhari and Kumari were scoring at a slowish rate, with the task now just making sure Sri Lanka weren’t bowled out. After a partnership of 34 runs, Kumari departed with the score sitting at 178/8. Dilhari went after a good knock of 84 from 98, with Kerr picking her up. Prabodhani and Ranaweera scored 9 runs from the 6 overs, but they couldn’t quite see out the full 50 overs, with Ranaweera departing for 5 with 1.2 overs left. Sri Lanka finished on 218/10 from 48.4 overs with Dilhari top scoring with 84. Tahuhu took four wickets and Eden Carson took 2 from 11 overs!!
