Former Blackcap and Central Stags pace bowler Seth Rance has announced that he has officially retired from cricket.
Rance played over 180 games for the Stags across all three formats, representing the side in 46 First Class matches, 65 List A matches and 75 T20 matches between 2009 and 2022. He also played 2 ODIs, 8 T20Is for New Zealand, and eight times for New Zealand A.
He made his Plunket Shield debut against Wellington in 2009 and only managed to take one wicket across the match. On his Ford Trophy debut against Otago, he also managed one wicket, as the Stags bowled Canterbury out for just 77. His T20 debut did go a lot better for the Stags grabbing figures of 4/13.
In Rance’s two ODI matches, both in a one-day tri-series in Ireland, he only managed one wicket across the two games, with that coming against Ireland. Rance’s T20I career was more successful with 10 wickets across his eight games. He played in tours against the West Indies and Pakistan in Aotearoa, whilst playing Pakistan in Dubai and Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
Managing three wickets in T20I debut against the West Indies, heavily assisted in his side's victory alongside fellow pacer Doug Bracewell, who got two wickets. His best figures for the Blackcaps, was against Pakistan in Wellington, taking figures for 3/26.
Rance has seven five-wicket first-class bags to his name, with a memorable spell of 6/26 against Northern Districts, at Napier’s Nelson Park was instrumental in guiding the Stags to victory in the Plunket Shield that season. His first and only five-wicket T20 bag for the Stags came in what happened to be his final season for the men in green. The effort of 5/19 from 3.5 overs helped to get Central victory on that day.
Rance hangs up the boots with over 100 wickets in each format along with many memories and titles to accompany it.
