Canterbury Kings Clinch Thrilling Victory Against Wellington Firebirds in Last Ball Finish

The toss was won by the Firebirds who elected to bat in the elimination final at Seddon Park in Hamilton.


Things didn't start the greatest with Gareth Severin getting dismissed for 5 off 7 balls getting bowled by Kyle Jamieson on his return from injury. Rachin Ravindra went for 2 in the next over being bowled by Zak Foulkes and the Firebirds were 13/2 after 3.3 overs.


Nick Kelly and Devon Conway stabilized the Firebirds until Conway had to go for 23 off 23 in a patient inning being bowled by the King's captain Cole McConchie.


Nick Kelly then went at 12.2 overs in, he got struck on the pad by Ish Sodhi and had to go for 33 off 31. The Firebirds were 73/4 needing a massive boost.


Muhammad Abbas then went for 32 off 21 deliveries picking up the Firebirds scoring rate drasticly. He went off Zak Foulkes's bowling with Matt Henry taking the catch.


Nathan Smith then went for 14 off 8 with the same combination of the last wicket combining for another wicket.


Logan van Beek then went for a golden duck being run out by Matt Henry with an assist from Tom Latham.


There was one man who saved the whole Firebirds inning. Michael Bracewell scored 54 from 24 balls. Scoring 6 sixes and 1 four in the process of his inning. This brought the Firebirds to a defendable 173 from 20 overs with Adam Milne scoring 0 off 0 not out.


Tom Latham went for 0 off 1, Logan van Beek took the catch with it coming off Nathan Smith's bowling.


Henry Nicholls came to the crease after recently being dropped by the Blackcaps scoring 1 off 6 having another poor performance this time in the Super Smash. Adam Milne took the catch off Logan van Beek's bowling.


The Kings put on a strong 46-run partnership with Chad Bowes and Cole McConchie stabilizing the Kings inning. However, Chad Bowes got caught on a flick shot to deep square leg where Michael Bracewell was standing. Ben Sears took the wicket on his comeback to the Firebirds side. Bowes went for 46 off 33.


Cole McConchie then for 53 off 38 being caught by Bracewell off Sears's bowling. The Kings were in trouble after he went as they were 108/4 after 14 overs requiring 66 off the last 6 overs.


Bevon Jacobs went for an unusual 2 off 3. He was caught by Peter Younghusband off Rachin Ravindra's bowling in the deep.


Mitch Hay then with 9 balls to go for 38. Nick Kelly took the catch off Adam Milne's bowling. The Kings required 23 off the last 9 balls in a near-impossible feat.


Zak Foulkes and Matt Henry then stepped up for the Kings with 23 runs coming off the last over including a 6 being scored on the last ball. Logan van Beek bowled 1, 1lb, wd, 6. wd, 6, 1, 6 for the Firebirds to throw the game on the final over.


Henry finished with 16 off 6 not out and Zak Foulkes was 11 not out off 7 balls. The Kings won by 4 wickets finishing on 177/6 off their 20 overs.
