Brave (W) and Magicians keep it close while Kings power to victory - Canterbury vs Northern Brave

Canterbury Magicians vs Northern Brave Women

The Brave won the toss and elected to bat. It was a poor call with Gurrey going for 6 while Jess Watkin made 8. However, Chamari Athapaththu scored 35 while Bariball also went for a single and the Brave were 69/4 after 9.2 overs. A worrying wicket total while ticking along the score.

Marina Lamplough and Eimar Richardson came to the crease needing to stabilize, both went on to score 18 runs. Patel came in and scored 14 off 15 being stumped by Laura Hughes. Agafali, Downes, Topp, and Knight didn't make much getting 1, 6, 9, and 2 each. The Brave ended with 136/9 after 20 overs.

The Magicians started well with an opening partnership of 66 after the first 10 overs until Kate Anderson was dismissed for 41 off 35 deliveries. Penna the new overseas player then got stumped for 10 and Fatima Sana was then run out for 0.

To the death it came to. Final over and the Magicians needed 7 to win. Tahuhu and Nat Cox were at the crease. The over was like this 1lb, 2, Dot, 1, 1. 2 off the last ball and Tahuhu needed 2. Pushing hard it wasn't close and Canterbury had a tied game!

Canterbury Kings vs Northern Brave Men

Canterbury got off to a fast start with the bat with Kristian Clarke being taken for a 13 fun second over.

Bowes was the first batter to perish as he was bowled by spinner Tim Pringle for 16.

Nicholls came out and showed some intent in the third over that he faced as he took Scott Kuggeleijn for 13 runs off the fifth over of the powerplay. Canterbury ended the powerplay on 47/1.

With Tom Latham going slow at the other end he knew that he needed to go for it and this was his demise as he was stumped by Tim Seifert for 14 from 18 off Henry Cooper’s bowling.

Cole McConchie added a quick 12 ball 17 but he was dismissed by Matt Fisher off his first ball of the game.

Mitch Hay struck the ball well right from the get go as he hit a ball straight to Tim Prignel who went over the boundary rope and resulted in a six.

From here on it was just a case for Canterbury to get the ball over the rope or to the boundary.

Hay finished up on a career best score of 73* from just 31 balls with four 4s and six 6s whilst Nicholls made a career best score as well of 76* from 50 balls with 10 4s and a 6.

The Brave got off to a bad start with the bat as they lost Tim Seifert early for five.

Jeet Raval joined Katene Clarke in the middle and they shared a solid 38 run stand to take the Brave out of the powerplay only one wicket down.

However, when Raval fell to Michael Rae for 12 from 17, it brought about the middle order collapse of Northern.

Joe Carter and Clarke went in quick succession for 11 and 30 respectively whilst Cooper could only add two runs to the score.

Some late fireworks by Brett Hampton (28), Scott Kuggeleijn (27), and Freddy Walker (27*) got Northern up to a total of 169/9 from 20 overs but were ultimately 33 runs short of the target.

Will O’Rourke got figures of 2/16 from his four overs and Zak Foulkes got 2/20 from four. Rae picked up three wickets (3/44) but was expensive.
