The Blackcaps have named an experienced side for the T20I series against Pakistan starting on January 12.
Matt Henry, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Lockie Ferguson. Henry returns following a hamstring injury during the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup, whilst Ferguson is back following an Achilles injury that he has had since the World Cup.
Blackcaps coach Gary Stead stated that:
“It’s great to be welcoming back Matt, Devon, Lockie and Kane.”
“They’re four quality players in their own right and their skills and experience will bolster our side.”
Both Henry and Ferguson will return to Super Smash action with Henry set to take the field against the Central Stags on Friday, Henry will be available for selection in all five games. Ferguson will play three Super Smash games over the next two weeks before he joins the Blackcaps squad for the final three games of the T20I series.
Williamson will also miss the third game of the series due to the fact he is managing a knee injury still. Central Stags all-rounder, Josh Clarkson, will be called in as cover and Mitchell Santner will be captain.
Ben Sears will be included for the first two games and will be looking to continue his recent form after the recent T20I series against Bangladesh.
Rachin Ravindra has missed selection in the squad, as he is beginning a period of rest following being with the Blackcaps since August.
Stead also said that Ravindra is:
“Still very much part of our thinking for the T20 World Cup in June and will come back into the reckoning for the T20 series against Australia in February.”
Kyle Jamieson (hamstring), Michael Bracewell (recovery from Achilles injury), Trent Boult (UAE) and Jimmy Neesham (South Africa) were all not considered for the T20I series.
