Auckland Win in Tight Contest Whilst Rain Spoils Games Elsewhere

Auckland defeated Canterbury in a close contest in Christchurch. There was no play in the other two games due to rain.

CANTERBURY VERSUS AUCKLAND ACES - HAGLEY OVAL, CHRISTCHURCH

RESULT: AUCKLAND ACES WIN BY 5 WICKETS

Canterbury got off to a good start with the bat as Chad Bowes went aggressive from the start, whilst Matt Boyle also provided good assistance from the other end.

Bowes did however fall for 34 from 28, 8.5 overs into the match.

Boyle and Dylan Hunter then found it hard to find runs in their partnership, making 32 runs together in 10.2 overs. Adi Ashok and Louis Delport did a great job through the overs between 10 and 20, with only a couple of runs coming off each over.

Boyle fell in the 20th over with Delport being the man with the wicket as he got Boyle out for 34 from 49 balls.

Hunter was joined in the middle by wicket-keeper batter, Mitch Hay. The Auckland bowlers kept on the pressure through Delport, Ashok, Matt Gibson and George Worker who got the wicket of Hay for 10 from 21.

Hunter then fell in the following over to Gibson for 28 from 69, Canterbury now sitting at 120/4, just two overs before having been at 112/2.

Captain Cole McConchie and Michael Rippon then put on an important for the home side as they brought up a vital knock of 94 runs in 17.3 overs to take Canterbury from 120/4 to 216/5 when the captain fell. McConchie made his 11th List A fifty, coming from 54 balls.

Not long after McConchie’s dismissal, Rippon soon had his first List A fifty for Canterbury with the knock coming in 56 balls.

Bevon Jacobs (11) and Angus McKenzie (1) were the last two batters runout, with Ryan Harrison running Jacobs out and Finn Allen running McKenzie out.

Canterbury had set Auckland a total of 251 for victory. Rippon top scored with 67* from 68 and McConchie also made 51. Ferns took two wickets whilst Gibson, Delport, and Worker all got one each.

Allen and Worker got their side off to a steady start with a 58-run opening partnership.

However, the dismissal of Worker in the 11th over for 17 and Allen in the 12th over for 39 set Auckland on the backfoot.

Will O’Donnell departed 20 runs later for 6 leaving Auckland at 3/78. To make matters worse for the visitors, Solia was the next man to go for 2, the score now 91/4 and 20 overs into the innings.

Robbie O’Donnell and Cam Fletcher, who was playing against his former team, set themselves up for a great partnership.

The pair batted exceptionally in the middle with their 50-run partnership being made in 53 balls.

With the game ticking along and looking like it would be going down to the wire, O’Donnell was out for 70 from 91 with McConchie grabbing the wicket.

Fletcher now had the task of trying to see his side home alongside Harrison. They did just this in their 78-run partnership in just under 12 overs. The fifty runs between them came in 53 balls with Harrison being the more aggressive one of the two.

Harrison and Fletcher were able to see the team home with an over to spare, taking the win by 5 wickets.

Robbie O’Donnell top-scored with 70 and Fletcher made 68. McConchie took two wickets while O’Rourke, Rae, and Rippon all got one each.
