Auckland Through to Ford Trophy Final on the Back of Twin Tons

Auckland have progressed through to the Ford Trophy finals off the back of Martin Guptill and Robbie O'Donnell hundreds.

Otago had a cracking start to the elimination final with Luke Georgeson and Jacob Cumming getting the side off to a solid start with the bat.

They put on 110 runs for the first wicket before Jock McKenzie was able to make the opening breakthrough with some tight bowling to have Cumming out for 46.

Dean Foxcroft then worked alongside Georgeson, who brought up his second List A 100 and his first for Otago. He made the century in 135 balls.

Foxcroft fell at an important stage for the Volts with just 12 overs left in the innings and 186 runs on the board for Volts. Louis Delport was the man with the breakthrough of Foxcroft for 26.

Dale Phillips (7) and Llew Johnson (12) went to Angus Olliver and Ben Lister respectively whilst Georgeson fell to McKenzie for a well-made 120.

Some late hitting by Max Chu (26 from 15) and Thorn Parkes (21 from 10) was able to get the Volts to 276/10 from 50 overs with Parkes being run out on the final ball of the innings.

Danru Ferns (3/42), McKenzie (2/35), Lister (2/75), Olliver (1/51), and Delport (1/53) were the wicket takers for the Aces.

Auckland got off to a bad start with the bat as Sean Solia departed in the third over for two.

Martin Guptill then went back to the old Guppy that we all know as he smashed around the Volts bowlers as he struck a brutal 102 from just 83 balls with 12 fours and 4 sixes.

Robbie O’Donnell played a captain's knock at number four as he also struck a century to get the Aces to within touching distance of victory.

Cole Briggs (24) and Will O’Donnell (28) both added crucial runs at number three and five respectively to see the Aces home to a four wicket win with 1.3 overs left.

Foxcroft (2/41) took two wickets for the hosts whilst Georgeson (1/34), Jacob Duffy (1/43), and Andrew Hazeldine (1/48) were the other wicket takers.

Auckland progresses to the final to be played on Saturday against Canterbury at Hagley Oval.
