Auckland Takes a Massive Win, Otago Take Stunning Victory, Wellington Win Close Over Northern

Central Districts vs Auckland:

Reese Drager and Ella Hogan opened for the Central side and they had a slow but positive start with 31 runs coming in the powerplay. Drager was dismissed on the last but Kaitlyn Halliday was for 16.

Sophie Court was the next player to make the breakthrough for Auckland with Hogan run out for 24 and then Leah Watton had Catherine Hockly for 1 from 26 to the CD side at 58/3.

Vanessa Taylor and Abby Treder were able to reignite the Central batting innings with a 22-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Rishika Jaswal then blitzed the Central middle order with the wickets of Treder (17), Taylor (14), Aniela Apperley (0), and Caitlin Marshall (4) to have them going from 90/3 to 91/6.

Auckland then had Catherine Marshall for four as Jaswal picked up her fourth wicket of the day.

Sophie Campbell led a small lower-order stand with Catherine Hollard to add seventeen more runs to the tally.

It was then up to Captain Grace Foreman and Campbell to push for some more runs which they did.

Foreman added seven runs but was dismissed by Court. Campbell was the last wicket to fall as she was trapped LBW by Kate Irwin.

Nenna Wollaston and Elizabeth Buchanan opened up for Auckland and they got off to a fast start with nine runs coming from Foreman’s first over and 13 from Marshall’s second.

Fairbrithern did strike on her second ball of the innings with the wicket of Wollaston for nine.

Irwin and Buchanan showed their true talent in the middle as they added a 65-run stand for the second wicket. They put on their 50-run stand in 47 balls with Buchanan contributing 22 runs and Irwin 25.

Hollard did pick up the wicket of Irwin for 32 and this led to a minor collapse for the Auckland side as they slipped from 94/1 to 124/4.

Buchanan then went eleven runs later for 39 and Brooke James departed having only made four runs with Hollard getting James whilst Foreman/Campbell ran out Buchanan.

Jaswal was going along at a good rate and she alongside Anika Todd (9) who was dismissed by Treder and then Jess Smith (4*) saw Auckland to a 5-wicket victory.

Otago vs Canterbury:

Hannah Wilson and Isy Parry got Otago off to a stellar start with the bat as they had a 92-run opening stand.

However, when Wilson was dismissed for 34 by Abigail Hotton and then Issy Parry also out for 34 by Eloise Borcoski it caused a sudden downfall in the Otago innings.

Chloe Deerness was the next player to go as she was out for 9 and this was followed by Abby Fookes (3), Caitlin Scherp (9) and Hannah O’Connor (0) all dismissed in quick succession.

Georgina McEwan went for nine and Otago were in real trouble at 140/7.

Anna McClean and Louisa Kotkamp added a vital 22 runs for the eighth wicket but McClean fell for 6 with Katriel Thomas running her out.

Zarah Moana added zero runs to the score as she was clean-bowled by Thomas.

However, a crucial 32 at the bottom of the order by captain Kotkamp alongside Katelyn Walton put on 30 runs for the last wicket to get Otago up to 196.

Canterbury lost an early wicket in the powerplay with Sammy Borcoski the first one to fall for eight.

Following this, the Otago bowlers bowled excellently to get Canterbury from 26/1 to 55/5.

Maggie Martin (3), Darcy-Rose Prasad (12), Niamh McKenzie (0), and Sophie Arnold (4) all fell in this time.

Otago then started to let Hotton and Eloise Borcoski build a little seventh wicket stand to get them back into the game but Deerness took the wicket of Hotton to breakthrough.

This led to Abby McKissock (5), Thomas (0), and Addison Stackhouse (1) being dismissed by Parry (McKissock and Thomas) and Walton (Stackhouse).

Yssa Cullen and Eloise Borcoski then started to turn the game in Canterbury’s favour as they took Canterbury from 106/9 to 157/9 when Borcoski was out to Molly Mason-Galletly for 54.

Canterbury finished on 157 with Otago taking a 39-run win.

Northern Districts vs Wellington:

Hannah Francis and Kate Chandler were dismissed early on in the innings with Brittany Jenkins taking the early wickets with Francis out for three and Chandler for one.

Rachel Bryant and Ashleigh Henderson set about rebuilding the innings with a solid third wicket stand of 72 runs.

However, Bryant was dismissed by Catherine Hardie for 26 and Henderson was run out by Dayle Anderson for 35 which left Wellington sitting in a position of 97/4.

Esme Olney-Boyd and Dhriti Girish put on a 62-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Olney-Boyd making 16 and Girish finishing on 32.

The Wellington lower order couldn’t add much with Ava Conroy (0), Neha Ramanathan (4), Isla McKenzie (0), and Anya Birmingham (0) all falling as Wellington finished on 182.

Brittany Jenkins finished with figures of 5/10 from her seven overs.

Natasha Wakelin and Amelia Harvey got Northern off to a solid start with a 47-run opening stand.

Wakelin was the first to go for 26 with McKenzie getting the wicket. Francis then struck in the following over with Harvey going for 11.

Anya Sharma and Joey Canty kept the scoring ticking along but Canterbury was able to keep fighting back with Canty being run out by Conroy for 18.

Eve Wolland and Sharma were able to rescue Northern from a little bit of trouble but when they were dismissed by Chandler for 23 and 28 respectively it left Northern five down.

Elle Archer and Jenkins could not add much to the total either with Archer falling for zero and Jenkins for three.

Megan Pearson (14*) and Miah Smith (11*) were not able to quite add enough at the end as they fell five runs short of victory.
