Auckland, Northern Get Big Wins, Wellington Win Close Game Against CD

Auckland and Northern Districts have gotten massive wins on Day Three whilst Wellington picked up a very close 18-run win over CD.

Northern Districts vs Canterbury:

Northern lost an early wicket with Amelia Harvey falling for a golden duck to Abby McKissock in the first over.

Natasha Wakelin and Ananya Sharma put on 27 runs in the next 5.2 overs with Aine Molony being taken for ten runs off her second over of the tournament.

She did strike in her third over with Sharma being out for a run-a-ball 16.

Jessie Canty and Wakelin had a small partnership of 12 for the third wicket but the Canterbury side were able to strike again with Katriel Thomas getting the big wicket of Northern captain Wakelin for nine.

Eve Wolland only lasted 17 balls and contributed seven runs to the total with Sammy Borcoski striking to leave Northern in trouble at 66/4 after 14.4 overs.

Catherine Hardy and Canty did a solid job of rebuilding the Northern innings with a 95-run stand for the fifth wicket. The Canterbury bowlers bowled well through the middle overs with Borcoski bowling a spell of 1/24 from her eight overs to keep the Northern batters at bay.

Maggie Martin got the wicket of Hardie to break the partnership, she ended up with 19 runs.

Elle Archer (9), Aria Mischewski (0), Brittany Jenkins (0), Megan Pearson (0), and Miah Smith (0*) added little to the score with McKissock, Eloise Borcoski, and Thomas getting the wickets.

Canty (83*) and Smith could see Northern through to 216/9 from their 50 overs.

Sacha Arnold fell in the first over for Canterbury with Mischewski getting the wicket.

Sammy Borcoski and Martin started to rebuild the Canterbury wickets, but once again Mischewski took a wicket, this time it was Borcoski out for seven.

When Martin fell 10 runs later for 18 it caused the rapid downfall of the Canterbury innings as they crumpled.

Canterbury quickly went from 41/3 to 46/6 as Eloise Borcoski (5), Niamh McKenzie (7), and Thomas (1), all went in quick succession. Dayle Anderson picked up two of the wickets whilst Smith got the other.

McKissock led a lower-order fightback alongside Ruby Makeham but when Hardie came through with the wicket of McKissock for 14, the Canterbury innings was soon all over.

Hardie then took the other two wickets of Makeham for seven and Molony for a duck.

They ended up on 75 all out with a 141 run for Northern.

Wellington vs Central Districts:

Hannah Francis and Neha Ramanathan had a solid 28-run stand in the opening four overs for Wellington until Aniela Apperley had the wicket of Francis for 15 from 11.

Ashleigh Henderson came to the crease but was only able to contribute two runs with Grace Foreman getting her first wicket of the day.

Central were able to keep pegging away at the Wellington innings and they regularly struck when the partnership between batters was around the 20-run mark. Ramanathan soon had her stand with captain Rachel Bryant cut short as she was bowled by Catherine Hollard for 22.

Bryant soon joined her back in the changing rooms with Hollard getting her LBW for 13.

Dhriti Girish and Esme Olney-Boyd also found themselves in the same situation with Central captain Emma McLeod getting the wicket of Girish for 11.

Olney-Boyd was able to add some middle-order resistance along with Ava Conroy as they put together a 41-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Vanessa Taylor and Apperley both took the wickets of Conory (15) and Olney-Boyd (40) in the space of an over to leave Wellington in trouble at 145/7.

Anya Birmingham made seven runs, but it was a crucial 19 runs that Isla Mckenzie contributed to get Wellington up to 177/10.

Reese Drager fell in the first over for Central but this brought McLeod to the crease and along with Ella Hogan, they took to the Wellington bowlers in a  41-run stand in just under eight overs.

Bryant however had success in her second over of the innings with the two wickets of Hogan for 13 and Taylor for a duck.

Abby Treder played well alongside McLeod as they kept the pressure on the Wellington bowlers and took their side to less than 100 runs required when McLeod fell in the eighteenth over for a run-a-ball 42.

For Wellington, the wicket of McLeod brought great success as they had Sophie Campbell (1) and Apperley (4) out in the same over with Girish getting the two wickets.

Caitlin Marshall and Treder kept Central in the hunt as they took them to within 40 runs required for a victory. Bryant (4/32 from 10) and Conroy (1/11 from 5) kept the bowling tight and made the Central batters feel like they were under pressure.

Marshall then went with the score at 140 for a solid knock of 17.

Bryant then had Gretel Fairbrother out for 3 before Treder fell to Conroy for 32.

With 33 runs required for a wicket, it would be up to Hollard and Foreman to get their side across the line.

They weren’t able to do this however as McKenzie took the wicket of Hollard for 6 and gave Wellington an 18-run win.

Auckland vs Otago:

Auckland had a fast start through Brooke James and Anika Todd as they had a 50-run stand for the first wicket inside nine overs.

Louisa Kotkamp had the wicket of the day with James out for 25. Katelyn Walton then added two wickets to the wicket column as they got Nenna Wollaston and Rishikha Jaswal out and two and six respectively.

It was then up to Kate Irwin and Todd who shared a mammoth 220-run stand for the fourth wicket.

None of the Otago bowlers could breakthrough with Isy Parry, and Hannah O’Connor taking some tap by the pair.

Irwin was the first to go as she was out for 120 with Walton getting the O’Connor getting the wicket

Todd was cruelly run out for 99 as she tried to come back for a second run off a misfield.

Jess Smith was out with three balls left in the innings for 0 with Elizabeth Buchanan ending on 11* and Kaitlyn Halliday on 2*.

They got their side up to a score of 308/6 from 50 overs.

Otago had a horrible start with the bat as they fell to within 4 wickets down inside the first 12 overs with Abby Fookes (0), Hannah Wilson (4), Chloe Deerness (2), and Georgina McEwan (0) all falling. Halliday, Issy O’Connell, and Anika Tauwhare all got the opening wickets.

Wickets did keep falling for Otago with Tauwhare getting Brittany O’Connor (0), Parry (27), and Scherp to have Otago at 46/7.

Jaswal, Smith, and Holly Lightbourne got the last three wickets with Kotkamp (8), Holly O’Connor (0), and Zahra Moan (6) all falling as Otago crumpled to 63/10 and Auckland gained a massive 245-run win.
