ANOTHER TIE? and a Comprehensive Victory - Wellington vs Central Districts

Wellington Blaze vs Central Hinds


The Toss was won by Wellington Blaze, who elected to bat.


Rebecca Burns went early for 2 off 8 and the Blaze set the tempo early on for a low-scoring game.


The Blaze took some time to get settled until Jess McFadyen scored 19 off 28 balls and the Blaze were 34/2 after 7.2 overs.


Melie Kerr and Georgia Plimmer started a partnership that usually digs the Blaze out of these tough situations. Scoring 48 runs in the partnership Kerr went for 26 off 33.


Jess Kerr then went first ball with a caught and bowled from Rosemary Mair.


Leigh Kasperek went for 5 getting run out without forging a start.


Georgia Plimmer then went for 41 off 37 after playing an inning that kept the Blaze in the game.


Rees went for 0 off 2 balls and Wellington posted 109/7 after 20 overs.


The Hinds got off to a better start than the Blaze scoring a 34 1st wicket partnership until Georgia Atkinson went for 9 getting bowled by Natasha Codyre.


Hollie Armitage went very soon after for 33 with Thamsyn Newton going for 11 not long after forging the first of Melie Kerr's wickets.


At 15 overs in the Hinds were 89/3 with 21 more runs to score until a collapse started. Hannah Rowe went for 17 then Rosemary Mair went for a Golden duck. Those were the 2nd and 3rd wickets of Melie Kerr.


Flora Devonshire then went for 2 in the same over putting Melie Kerr on 4 wickets.


At 98/6 you would be excused to think this was wrapped up apart from that it wasn't. Greig went for 17 and the Blaze only needed 3 more wickets. Chatterji went immediately going first ball.


The next over Gaging went for 5 being bowled by Xara Jetly. The Hinds were 98/9 and the Blaze had their tails up.


The Hinds built an 11-run partnership and needed 1 off the last 7 to win until the savior Melie Kerr took her 5th wicket of Claudia Green to ensure a tie and 2 points was all the Hinds took back up north.


Wellington Firebirds vs Central Districts


The toss was won by the Firebirds, who elected to bat in their clash.


Nathan Smith was promoted to the top of the order and he hit a 4 first up. Then got bowled by Doug Bracewell off his second ball in what was a lackluster start for the Firebirds.


Nick Kelly then scored 8 but he had to go off 7 deliveries after being caught by Joey Feild.


Nick Greenwood went for 2 after facing 8 deliveries being bowled by Blair Tickner.


Jesse Tashkoff went for 7 after being runout with Abbas still at the crease after his great knock in the last match.


Abbas was gone for 35 off 29 being caught by Doug Bracewell. The team was 72 for 5 after his crucial knock for the team.


Troy Johnson went not long after for 17 and the Firebirds had to survive 7 overs with 4 wickets in hand.


The next partnership was worth 32 with McLauchlan going for 24 off 22 being bowled by Lennox.


Peter Younghusband went for 3 off 4 being caught by Bracewell however someone was holding up an end for the Firebirds.


Logan van Beek was flying ensuring Wellington made 147 off their 20 overs. van Beek ended on 41 off 24 not out.


Will Young went after 5 overs for only 7 via the soft signal. Troy Johnson with an incredible piece of fielding threw it back in nearly touching the boundary rope. Nick Kelly completed the catch after Johnson ran from the circle to take a screamer.


Dane Cleaver was then gone at around the 10-over mark going for 13 getting caught behind by McLachlan in a regulation catch. The Stags were 74/2 after 9.4 overs.


Jack Boyle then went for 57 after getting bowled by Logan van Beek. He replaced Bayley Wiggins who scored 43 for Hawke's Bay in the Hawke Cup.


Will Clark went soon after for 5 getting caught and bowled from Peter Younghusband.


Logan van Beek's over-tied the game for the Stags with the over going for 33 off 5 legal deliveries. The over went like this wd+4, 1, 1, wd, nb+6, 6, 6, 6. With One legal ball to spare Logan van Beek got saved from bowling the worst over in Super Smash history.


Doug Bracewell finished on 30 off 10 and Tom Bruce finished on 26. The Stags had 3.1 overs remaining when they chased down the total.
