Anderson offered maiden contract, Bezuidenhout returns to White Ferns Contracts - Vincent Jones

Updated: Oct 24, 2023

Kate Anderson and Bernadine Bezuidenhout have been offered White Ferns Contracts for the 2023/24 season. 27-year-old Anderson appears on the contract list for the first time after coming off a stellar season for the Magicians whilst Bezuidenhout was last contracted in 2019.

The White Ferns Contracts list is as follows: Kate Anderson, Bernie Bezuidenhout, Suzie Bates, Eden Carson, Sophie Devine, Isabella Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Hayley Jensen, Fran Jonas, Amelia Kerr, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, Lea Tahuhu

Kate Anderson had a stunning summer in both the Dream 11 Super Smash and Hallyburton Johnstone Shield with Anderson awarded the Domestic Player of the Year and Super Smash Player of the Year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards. Having made the move down from Northern Districts it has certainly been a big past year for Anderson. She scored 343 runs @42.87 in the HBJ Shield, with one hundred and two fifties, making a high score of 141*. In the Super Smash she scored 536 @59.55, with five fifties and a high score of 95. In her sixty matches for ND she had only scored 687 runs, which shows how well she did over the 22/23 summer. Bernie Bezuidenhout had a great comeback to cricket both domestically and internationally. After scoring a 50 and 100 in the first two games of the season, which show that even after two years out of the game you can still come back and do well. After some quality performances across the T20 and List A competitions, Bezuidenhout was recalled for the White Ferns T20 World Cup campaign, where she kept and batted in the top order for the White Ferns. In the HBJ Shield she scored 191 runs @63.67 in the 4 innings she batted in, the reason for the small number of matches that she played in was due to the World Cup and an injury she picked up during the season. Bezuidenhout also scored 136 runs in the Super Smash.

With the inclusion of Bezuidenhout, Tahuhu and Anderson it means that Jess McFadyen, Lauren Down and Nensi Patel have both dropped out of the contract list, and will now have to go back to their domestic sides contract lists.

McFadyen will count herself unlucky to miss out on a national contract, after appearing in the White Ferns series vs Bangladesh. After Patel didn’t make her White Ferns debut during the last contracting period, she will be looking forward to hopefully push her name for higher honours this coming summer. Lauren Down also drops off the list after opting out due to family commitments.
