Auckland Aces vs Canterbury Kings
Canterbury Kings won the toss and elected to bowl. Finn Allen and Martin Guptill opened up for the Aces with Guptill getting close to a 50 on an NZ domestic return scoring 47 off 29 and getting bowled by Michael Rippon. Finn Allen scored 26 off 17 scoring 3 sixes after getting released from the Blackcaps squad to appear in this fixture.
Sean Solia came in and only scored 9 getting caught and bowled by McConchie. Robbie O'Donnell came into having a go and scored 54 off 38 not out. Jimmy Nesham came in a went for 10 getting caught by Leo Carter with the ball coming from Rippon. Cam Fletcher scored 24 off 15 in a quick-fire inning that got brought to an end by getting caught by Boyle with the ball coming from Rae. Harrison scored a quick 7 off 4, bringing the Auckland innings to 185/5.
Chad Bowes went for 1 caught behind by Cam Fletcher. Boyle was next to go. He went for 15 caught by Fletcher. Cole McConchie went for 0 quickly and Leo Carter went for 22. Mitch Hay finished the top scorer for the visitors with 43 runs, but his wicket left Canterbury at 95/5 and they were soon at 115/6 when Michael Rippon went for 13 from 12.
Bevon Jacobs then demonstrated some incredible ball striking on debut as he powered a quick 42 from 20 to get his side back in the game with some assistance from Zak Foulkes who made 13 from 10.
When Jacobs was bowled by Neesham in the 18th over it turned the game back in Auckland's way. Neesham then had Sheat and Rae both out for zero and the Kings finished on 157 in 17.5 overs.
Auckland Hearts vs Canterbury Magicians
The Auckland Hearts elected to bowl sending Canterbury into bat.
Kate Anderson and Frankie Mackay scored 25 and 22 respectively got the visitors off to a good start but this was going to be one of the only quality partnerships that the Magicians could muster. The Magicians then lost three quick wickets to slump to 60/3 with Anderson, Mackay, and Isobel Sharp (2) all falling.
Nat Cox and Jodie Dean both made 20 runs each to get the Magicians up past the 100-run mark inside 17 overs. The tail brought up 22 runs between them to elevate Canterbury to 127/8.
Skye Bowden dominated with the ball for the home side as she grabbed her first T20 wicket and then went on to pick up outstanding figures of 4/18 from four overs. Rishika Jaswal also bowled well on debut with figures of 1/16 from four overs.
The Hearts got off to a wobbly start with Anna Browning and Bella Armstrong falling early into the innings. Saachi Shahri's 24 runs were the highest in the Hearts innings and Prue Catton's 22 from 20 saw the Hearts through to 60/4 at the end of the first 10 overs. Needing 68 from the last 10 overs, Josie Penfold's 23 (29) and Skye Bowden's 20 (21) saw the Hearts through to 110/6 with five balls left in the innings.
The task of 17 from 5 balls proved too much for Cate Pedersen (on debut) and Amie Hucker as they made 8* (8) and 5 (4) respectively.
Frankie Mackay, who was playing her 105 T20 match for Canterbury picked up the most economical for the visitors with 2/19 from her four overs while Gabby Sullivan had figures of 3/22 from four overs.
The Hearts finished on 116/7, falling 11 runs short of victory.
